I am looking to buy a security camera that will have sd card storage and is battery operated.
It has to have a very good sensor that will pick up people as they come down my front path.
The camera will be placed above the porcg door..the end of the path is aproximately 30' away.
I have tried 6 different cameras all purchased on Amazon and while they work to a certain extent non start recording until I am about 1/3rd of the way down the path.
Can any recommend a battery operated camera that has a long range sensor option.
Thank you

I think most battery operated cameras will have the issue of the recording not starting straight away. It's due to the limitations of battery operated. The cameras reserve power and by the time they start recording after motion is detected you will miss the exact start of the motion.
Battery cameras don't record 24/7 so are unable to cache the footage before the motion is detected.

I'm beginning to think you are correct. I have tried 5 different ones and they are not great. The problem I have is that there is no power source in the porch apart from a light switch and I don't think I can run a socket box from that.

cameras like you want use very little power so i would expect them to be able to run off a light circuit
`not a sparky here so take more advice` :)

Maybe take a look at products from Reolink. You can buy solar panels for their cameras. They recently launched the Argus 4 Pro with 4K Colour Day and Night Vision:

Or they have cheaper cameras. I can't say whether they will solve your problem though. They have an online community where you could ask.

will have a look at them thank you. The power isnt so much of an issue..I need a camera that has a powerful enough sensor on it that it picks up people/cars going past the house..and will therefore catch people as soon as they enter my property

Why is it that you are keen to get alerted as soon as possible? Why can't you just put a camera nearer to the entrance of your property? Wouldn't that speed up the reaction time?

my router is at the back of the house and can't be moved. The camera will be fixed to the front door of the house as there is nothing in the front garden ( tree or post etc ) to attach it to. I'm fairly sure that the router signal won't allow me to put the camera much further away.

It would have to be one hell of a cctv camera to need more power than a lighting circuit can deliver I’d definitely get it wired as wired is always better than battery.
