I have a number of AA and AAA used batteries that I have been collecting over the months. Does anyone know where I can recycle or do anything else with them instead of throwing them away?

Nothing particularly useful online apart from a site charging me 85c per battery and is in the USA!

Any ideas?

I have found this btw, maybe some of you could find the forum useful for free stuff. http://www.recycle.co.uk/

Your local tip probably has a bin especially for dead batteries these days, our tip recently (past 6 months or so) started having a bin specifically for normal consumer batteries (AAA's, PP3's, C's, D's, etc) next to the containers for car type batteries.

i don't normally recycle them (i tend to use rechargables), but now I know the local tip does recycle them i've got a bag in the garage that i'm trying to remember to put them in :)

Outside some supermakets they can be recycled (like wise with cell phones). Some recycle points as well.

Car batteries its fun to collect the suphuric acid (you never know if some chavs come around and you need to re-fill your supersoaker) and collect the lead which can then be sold or turned into fishing weights, or sold to people to make into fishing weights, or sold to people bot to turn into fishing weights...

+ it can make interesting stains on your patio
