This popped up on Steam last night when I logged in - looks like it's been in early access and has recently been released. Looks quite interesting - just wondered if anyone on this forum has it and what their thoughts are?

Battle Brothers is a turn based tactical RPG which has you leading a mercenary company in a gritty, low-power, medieval fantasy world. You decide where to go, whom to hire or to fight, what contracts to take and how to train and equip your men in a procedurally generated open world campaign. Do you have what it takes to lead them through bloody battles and to victory?

The game consists of a strategic worldmap and a tactical combat layer. On the worldmap you can freely travel in order to take contracts that earn you good coin, find places worth looting, enemies worth pursuing or towns to resupply and hire men at. This is also where you manage, level up and equip your Battle Brothers. Once you engage a hostile party the game will switch to a tactical map where the actual fighting takes place as detailed turn based combat.

As I say - looks interesting but could do with some feedback to understand if it's worth the current asking price (high as just released I assume).

I've got it and so far it's pretty decent.

There's a randomly generated map with different factions holding specific locations. You hire men for your army, you trade and quest to make cash to pay for their upkeep.

It all looks rather simple but you kind of bond with your men who all have a different back story, different look and different stats. They level up as you go and gain extra stats and skills.

I've not had much time to really get stuck in but so far it's brilliant.

Search ''Battle Brothers - Worthabuy?'' this will give you a great insight into the game and mechanics.

Been playing this solid last few days. Was going to post a thread myself, but these games are overlooked on these boards in favor of those with shiny graphics and big explosions.

OP, if you like the xcom TBS affair then this is for you. It's excellent and 30 hours in I'm not close to being bored. I feel like I have a solid team but can still get whopped by higher tier enemies.

The hit ratio is well dodgy though. Far too many times I have 84% or 86% chance to hit and I'm thinking ' I bet he misses again' and then he does. Not funny.

Thanks for the replies chaps. I have to say I loved the original Enemy Unknown and Terror From the Deep (the XCOM remake didn't really click with me however for some reason). I watched the worthabuy video which was informative - I like the idea of managing a group of characters with traits and a backstory (bit like Rimworld) and the medieval setting and weaponry looks good...
