Battlefield 2 / 2142 - Much changed in a year?

I've not played either game for over a year but was thinking about having another go.

Have things improved or is it basically the same game?

apparently theres a new patch for BF2 out soon, so perhaps that will reignite people's interest in it. I always liked BF2 over 2142. Both are good games though

Patch 1.5 for 2142 brings 2 new maps.
Wake Island 2142, and Shingle a close quarters map, but also great for snipers. Plus widescreen support.

I was thinking about playing BF2 again until I remembered that my disc had a crack in it :/

You can mout a very small file to trick it into having the disc in if need be, google about, "bf2 with no dvd" etc.
