Dont think im going to bother with a desktop untill i9 is out, as it seems a bit stupid buying i7 now for it to be replaced.

So im looking to buy a laptop.

Found one for sale for £600 ish with this gfx card

256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330

is this enough to run battlefield 2 @
17.3" WLED High Definition + (1600 x 900) ???

Also, is there a massive difference between these two cpu's £400 price difference

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.40Ghz, 1066MHz, 3MB)

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T9600 (2.80Ghz, 1066MHz, 6MB)

Many thanks ?

Btw, i9 won't replace i7, they will use the same socket, 1366 with some lower end new i7s using 1156. So if you have an i7 setup it will almost certinally support i9 with Bios updates.

As for the laptop, the extra £400 for 400MHz (£1 a MHz!) and some cache obviously isn't worth it. Not sure about the grapics card, BF2 is quite dated now I expect it will be fine. Maybe see if you can find one 2nd hand with better graphics.

I would never play BF2 at that res as there is no native widescreen support and the widescreen patch is rubbish! as for playing at max settings i doubt it but worth a try due to the lack of GFX ram.

the t9600 cpu (i7 mobile cpu by the way) has a load more on chip cache technically making it a faster processor but to be honest unless you wanted stupidly fast computing then i would save the £400 as the graphics card and hard drive will never be able to keep up with it.

Thankyou for your replies.

Is this a decent spec for the cash, and enough to run BF2 at its native resolution ?

Also, can i overclock the cpu safely on the above laptop ?

Assuming it has good cooling then overclocking the CPU should be fine, asuming the BIOS allows it.

The graphics card on that system should easily max out BF2 @ 1920x1200 tbh. But the laptop is pretty expensive, you could get a much more powerful desktop system for that sort of money. So unless mobility is key, I'd look into building a desktop system. As mentioned previously, i9 will run on the same setup as current i7s.
