Battlefield 2 - Problem

After a year of been sat gathering dust on my shelf I decided the other day to re-install it and get back into playing the Project Reality Mod.

I re-installed and updated it to the 1.41 patch all done successfully.

Started up the game and retrieved my account info (its been a while forgot password

).

Entered all the details and hit login to ensure I had that part working correctly, after an unusual 5 min wait nothing happened. So I hit escape....still nothing. By now the spinning '2' was getting slightly annoying.

I hit the windows key to ensure my firewall wasn't asking the block/unblock question which it wasn't, I'd cleared it before entering the game. So went back to the game...still nothing, now the music was getting annoying...had to hit Ctrl+Alt+Del to get it to stop...after an approx 15mins of waiting.

Any ideas why it won't get any further?

Dual Core E6750 standard 2.66 Ghz
2Gb OCZ PC2-5400C5 DDR 2 RAM
EVGA 8800GTS 512mb graphics
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 mobo

It may just be down atm, how many times did you try? BF2 servers have a nasty habit of waiting till you decide to reinstall to die.

Mind you, BF2 has a nasty habit of just not working in general.

I had a similar issue when I re-installed BF2 last week, it took a while to recognise my account details after I had reset the password.

Give it time and it'll work

im pretty sure that on BF2 you have to retireve account after a long absence. dont exactly know why, maybe somethin to do with account activity, after all there are hundreds of thousands of accounts out there and it is an online account unlike cod4

If you re-read my post I did an account retrieval as I couldn't remember any of my details.

Finally gave in last night and un-installed...I even tried starting a new account, still same problem...might try again at the weekend with a full re-install etc

try updating pb ... i do it once in a while.

look here and download pbsetup then add the games you have which use pb and update.

though to me it looks like your firewall is the problem. have you got windows firewall enabled or not ? and what firewall do you use ?

Yup looked at PB got the update;

I only have windows firewall....and I clicked to unblock BF2.

I left after they beat it to a bloody pulp with a Nerf Bat but I've returned and it's great fun.

Would have suggested doing an uninstall and then reinstall. Maybe something went wrong with the patching. Also you hadn't removed the Video files to avoid watching them had you? Might have accidentally removed the menu video over Strike at Karkand which caused issue, or maybe they need to be all in as stock on first load. Or even still having the old BF2 settings folder in My Docs could have caused another issue.

Also I've heard of people patching 1.01 then 1.1 then 1.2 etc to 1.41 to get around some issues with the game.

Yeh.....was hoping I wouldn't have to do that! lol

Might be the cause and no I didin't delete anything.

I installed BF2...and patched with Full 1.41 patch..tried it...nothing...checked firewall, internet connection, PB...tried again...nothing...tried new account....nothing.

Tried again last night....still nothing...just continuous spinning '2' and repetative music
