Well after recently installing BF2, again, I joined a server(High GFX settings) and it felt like a slideshow mode. It was jumping between frames like crazy.

I then changed the graphics to low settings and joined a server. The same happened...

I'm currently on:
Windows XP 64x
AMD 64 3200
2GB RAM
Geforce 6800 256mb

The only thing that I think can be the problem is the OS...

Cheers.

GS.

I'm upto the latest CPU drivers and fully updated OS.

Edit : I've just used the EA Games Easy Info program and it says this: 'Microsoft Windows Server 2003 family, Professional Service Pack 1 (Build 3790).' I'm definately on W64x though

This is what easy info fully says
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 family, Professional Service Pack 1 (Build 3790) - Red Cross
System Memory 2048.4 - Green Tick
Processor Speed 2211.4 - Green Tick
Display Device NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GS - Green Tick
Display Memory 256.0 - Green Tick
AMD AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+ 2211.4

I basically beat all the recommended by a mile but the OS is completely wrong...

Dont worry abot what it says for the os as it says the same for mine so thats not the problem.

Does it do the same in single player?

Just tested and yes. Sometimes it's fine and others it's not... If I looked into a corner or something it seemed to run fine - sometimes. It feels as though my FPS just hits the deck like a sack of rocks.

I've updated my GFX drivers this morning and it made no difference... I don't understand :(

Is your audio running in hardware mode? I got terrible performance when I re-installed BF2 and forgot to change the sound from software mode.

I've tried it in every mode there is and still no difference. I've tried changing every setting within that god damned gamed and still nothing... I just don't understand :(

Not that I know of, no.

A lad i know is having the same bother. Is it just BF2 or is it happening in all games?
Just BF2, every other runs like a dream.

Going to try, another, re-install.

bf2 at high details is a major rig killer lower some details to medium and see. 6800gs will have issues with bf2 maxxed tbh.

I concur, especially if your at 1280 x 1024 or above. My 6800GT had problems with all high settings and 2 AA.

But i got rid and bought an X1900XT instead.

Have you tried deleting the shader cache?

I delete this every time I change the graphic settings - when loading a level the game shows a message after a change of video settings saying that the shaders are being re-optimised but I always find that unless they are deleted they can cause problems.

They can be found in the 'my docs--> BF2 ---> Mods ---> BF2 ---> chache' i think... well its somewhere around there anyway.

Just delete the subfolders found in the cache directory.
