Is there a patch to get battlefield 2 properly widescreen instead of just cropping the image?

Oh well. Ill have to use the cropping thing if it works. :(

I've just made a tiny edit to my BF2 .exe for some WS niceness, if you wanna use it just implement this, changing res to fit yours of course..

"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

Yeah thats the cropping thing, it slightly crops the image as opposed to increasing the FOV, I suppose it doesn't make that much difference.

The "unfair advantage" thing is just a BS excuse, what they mean is "we're too lazy to code by modern standards, we're EA what do you expect?"

Ok I'm having a few issues trying to get this working. I copied the target and started the game through the icon but it doesnt seem to work, it just seens to be on a defaut res no the res I want. Any ideas?

If I remember correctly the menu screen doesn't change resolution, but once you're into the game proper you should see the new resolution.

Correct, I know it works as when I set it my NEC 20.1" doesn't keep telling me it can go to a higher native res than the one it's displaying in?

Well it increases your fov which does give an advantage over the standard. Changing the fov even with 4:3 screens has been exploit used by some for ages. All said and done though, you can run a "widescreen" res on a 4:3 screen if you want, so you wouldn't be missing out on that extra couple of foot anyway

Battlefield 2 doesn't support true widescreen, even though a command line, so it doesn't increase the FOV. It just crops the image as far as I have been told (-vert?)

If anything that would be a disadvantage, of course it's actually neither because it's complete B.S.

I know, I've got a 2407 and use the command line to change the res. I know it crops the screen but it doesn't bother me that much. Increasing the fov does give an advantage, I remember seeing players in Q3 running around as if they had a fish eye lense! It's not that big a change for a widescreen res though, so why they don't pull their finger out of their "behinds" I don't know...

So I shoould just leave the resolution alone when in the menu area. The problem is I think it goes back to 60hz in the game whereas I want it as 75, is there any way of changing that?

Having a soundcard gives unfair advantage over people who don't have soundcards. Having a good GFX card gives an unfair advantage over those with crap ones. Having a mouse is unfair to those without hands!!
