Battlefield 2 woes......

Hi,
I recently got into battlefield 2 having missed it first time around due to its performance on my old system. Anyway it was running fine on medium settings @ 1024x768 and looking fine, however I've just installed the 1.4 patch and now it runs like crud. I've lowered most of the GFX settings to low and the res to 800x600 (which really makes it look poor) and it still plays with huge amounts of lag. Now the only things I've changed are patching it and setting up my joystick, so it muct be the patch. So are there any known issues with the patch?

Anyway I know there are quite a few guides out there for getting the best out of BF2 so can someone me recomend one please? It either that or uninstall the patch which I'd prefer not to do as if I want to play it online it really does need to be the lastest version.

Just incase below is a summery of the system I'm using to run it but I dont think it matters as the hardware has not changed just the version of the game:

Semron 3000+ skt 939
1GB RAM
Radeon X1600
Windows XP 32 bit STTBE
latest drivers

Cheers in advance

If memory serves me correctly, most people were recommending 2GB RAM to have it run smoothly.
on high texture detail.

the game's cache is the usual cause after patching or sometimes after changing some graphic setting's.

My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache\

delete everything with-in the cache folder and when you next load a map it'll do a fresh optimize.

Cheers clearing the games cache seems to have worked, it now runs fine @ 1024x768 on med GFX and no AA. Looks ok again too.
Thanks again.
