Just got the game :) i know im a bit behind on games but just finished uni year and so now have time to play. I also picked up the Northern Strike add-on? But havnt opened it in case i dont need it.

But yeh what do i need to get started playing online? I've heard of punkbuster or something, but can some point me in the right direction/list all the stuffs i need to play online and start gaming.

I hate starting new games and being the noob but i get pretty obsessed so i hope i picked the right game to waste the spare time in summer.

Ok, there's a current update out taking you to 1.25, (located here http://www.electronicarts.co.uk/downloads/2623/ )it will include the punkbuster update. The add on is good, has a few extra awards/unlocks/maps/vehicles to try out.

The game itself has 2 modes, conquest and titan. Conquest being capture the flag. In titan mode, each team has a "titan" a big ship in the air, the missile silos get captured which then in turn blow the shield off the titan, you can then blow the computers + main core on the titan then.


You will find yourself at the start with no unlocks or extra weapons, you dont even get grenades. Its best to study the "unlock tree" before choosing an unlock to see where you want to go. Personally i just went from left to right to get a bit of everything. You can just quickly move up and get 3 unlocks then the 4th is a gun.

Engineer. Best Kit is the Pilum, other Gun (SAW ANTI Air) is pap.
Recon. The det packs are very usefull, and the carbine is a good machine gun, recons other gun is a more powerful sniper, depends on what you prefer.
Support. The sentry gun is a must, always gets a few kills when placed correctly.
Assault. The second gun (not the scar, can't think of the name of the top of my head argh) is the better one to go for.


To get quicker up the ranks, aim for the badges, dont aim for medals as they give no extra points. When you get to gold badges you get an extra 2000 points. Quickest way to gaining points is healing /resupplying your team mates and getting loads kills in.
 
All online my friend. Single player mode is just playing maps against bots, although its ok this game is mainly based on online play.
 
Koolies, im downloading the 1.25 thing now, its taking for ages, cant wait :D just hope my firewall doesn't mess me about, i had port forwarding and the like :(
 
Ok when i apply the patch it says Failed, and then it says successful.
Then when i try to create soldier it says its timed out and I dont know what else to do because I cannot even play single player mode?
 
yeh i think its cos i tried to install patch straight after install without restarting, rookie mistake, havnt installed games in forever.
 
I think its a lack of disk space :( only have 1.2 gb left, waiting for tomorrows delivery of a shiny AAKS 2 arrive.
 
OOOO played for a few hours today and im hooked already, got two unlocks just got to decide what i want. I like sniping a bit, but the rifle seems a bit pap compared to some of the other team?

Was thinking of doing 2 on 1 tree bit and progress from there. Is the first 2 sniper or first two assualt better?
 
dont unlock anything on the recon kit first, I made that mistake and payed for it for days, everyone will tell you to either unlock the support or assault kit first as they both have pretty good std guns and its quicker to badges ribbons with either of these two because of the following

Assault - defrib and med hub, drop it near ppl and hang back from the battle to revive them when needed, comes in real handy defending / attacking the titan

Support - Ammo hub, sentry gun handy again for the titan also getting points round the map by just giving everyone a ammo topup

I was thinking about getting 2142 or BF2 - played the demo on both, obvious they're pretty much the same. Whats the population on BF2 like these days? Are all the bugs ironed out?

There are more people playing 2142 I think, and no, there are still bugs in 2142. 2142 is the better game though, in my opinion; they've sorted out a lot of balancing issues (e.g. aircraft no longer rule the entire map).
 
Nooo, i couldn't wait and did something silly, did a bit of upgrade on three things :( should have concentrated on one and got it done properly :( Might start a new soldier and get the support tree going to get points quicker.
