Battlefield 3 - am I missing something?

I've recently tried playing Battlefield 3, and have been frankly appalled at Battlelog. Never before have I found such a bloated backend for a game before, one that drops stats, forgets you've played on servers and is generally ****. I've managed to unlock the Same Cobra RDS sight three seperate times now, all for the same gun (the AKS74u). The game (when you can get one) is fun, am getting murdered a lot because I have no unlocks!

One small issue: Whenever I use the server browser, not many servers show up. I'm looking at 32 and 64 man/any gametype. Anyone know why/good servers to play on?

I bought the game a few months ago, really wanting to like it, to be fair the gameplay isnt that bad but battlelog and origin are more than enough to put me off even loading the game up nowadays.
