Hi guys,

So I cranked up my graphics to ultra on my single 5870, but turned off MPAA and I'm netting a happy 40+ frames on 64 player multi at 1920x1200..

Couple of questions:

Firstly I can barely see any difference between high and ultra.. is there any?

Secondly, is MPAA worth forking out for a new graphics card?

Thirdly, what do people consider to be a playable frame rate?

I ask because I'm considering buying another 5870 to CF. ;)

Running everything on max on Ultra with no less than 30fps on 1920x1080 with a single 5870 using 11.9 drivers and no profiles.

The difference between settings is explained here.

Not a fan of AA. I use post-process AA, seems to do the job, and doesn't impact frame rates near as much as MSAA, which is very costly (especially on ATI cards), for very little visual gains.

I wouldn't bother getting a second card for extra anti aliasing performance. For me, playable is anything above 40, ideally above 60. If you use vsync, under 30 will cause problems. I'm getting 60-150 fps on crossfire 6950, versus 40-90 fps with MSAA (1200p). But realistically, a single 6950 would achieve very decent frame rates, what I'd consider easily 'playable'. BF3 is not a game that requires crossfire on 1080p.

BTW, one of the most stable games I've played. Gave it a good work out on BF3 for hours without a single problem.

1. Theres a BF3 performance thread in the the Graphics Card section
2. Upgrade to 8GB RAM
3. Get another 5870. I'm running 5850 CF and the game run at 70fps average at 1080p some settings on Ultra rest on HIgh

I have a single MSI 570 Twin FroZr OC card and run at full ultra settings and get average of 44 fps which was very playable. I have since turned AA down too times 8x and MSAA to 2x (I think that is the correct values :)) and getting like a few extra fps.

I really find it hard to see any difference between Ultra and High settings, at least on textures. I'm unsure if theres a major difference between the effects though and render distance of textures.

I'm happy with how it looks and plays on these settings:

I'm also going to upgrade to CF5870's next payday I feel, I think that'll do me for a good few years of gaming to come.

I get an average of 60fps with my setup, a lot of the time its above that but there are the few odd times it's below. Anything below 50 and I find it very noticeable.. I blame CS (not source) for this.. back when that was the aim.
