Hi guys,

In short, it's time to upgrade from what is now a rather dated BFG GTX260. I'm currently running an i7 950 @ 4.0Ghz (Corsair H70 cooler) and need a graphics card that will run Battlefield 3 as good a possible without breaking the bank.

I was looking at the £200 mark and the Asus 560ti DirectCU II seemed like a good choice to run at 1920 x 1080 resolution. Am I bang on the money or should I go for a 570?

I need some guidance by trusted users (thats you guys)!

Thanks in advance.

I guess I just don't want to be disapointed by not being able to enjoy as much as I want to. (sorry for sounding all sensitive)...

Think there was a thread which showed slides from dice suggesting anything from 560gtx to single 580gtx would run the game on high settings at that res, but you'd need dual cards for ultra settings. Depends on what fps you're comfortable with, if you require 60+ fps then a 560gtx isn't going to cut it at that res, on high settings. Best to get quickest card your budget will allow.

I can't speak from experience but I'm in a similar boat and from what I've read the 560Ti is the best mid-range card out at the moment, especially when you factor in very strong overclock potential. The beta results for BFBC 2 show the 560Ti beating even the 6950 2Gb version. At 1080p, everything maxed you get a stable 31FPS (min 29FPS).

The GTX 580 will break the 40FPS barrier, but obviously that card is a lot more expensive.

Thanks kissenger.

I guess the next question is do I buy the 560Ti with a view to either SLI in a few months time and/or upgrade to Kelper as and when they are available?

One thing is certain, it would appear the general feeling is that it needs to be a 560Ti or a 580 and not bother with the 570?

I think if your going for a 570 i would only get the 2.5gig version and if you went for the 560ti id get the 2gig version, i wouldnt bother with the lower vram version as it looks like future games will be using a lot more vram especialy if your thinking of going sli down the road. As you can see from ym sig im using the msi 560ti 2gig version which i got when it was on offer for £199 and im very happy with it.

Or got with an ati 69502gig is the other option, but i get the feeling your an nvidia fan

Appriciate the help. I'm big on nvidia as everything else I use my machine for is geared towards using their cards.
I could be convinced but I'd need to see either considerable performance for the same money or the same performance for less money. Does such a happy gamers medium exist?

Yes, it's hardly conclusive but the 6950 with 10fps minimums better than the 570 is quite a difference and it never went below 30fps.

The 570's performance looks even worse when looking at it from 39fps as well:

For BF3, vram is going to be crucial for higher settings, get yourself a 2Gb 560 since you are comfortable with nvidia, it will perform similar to the 6950!

tommybhoy,

Thank you! This is exactly the sort of information I needed to see. With Kepler supposedly being delayed until early next year this seems like the logical choice.

Thanks once again.

i wasnt bothered ati or nvidia had same option went with toxic 6950 as basically most flash to 6970 got it for 225 off here aswell so happy all round

at stock about same as a 570 gtx or few frames less unlocked its about same or little faster so for money nice buy.

And I based it off of [H]!;)

EA/DICE staffer Joe Ellis pointed out that "The beta won’t include all the graphics features which will make it in the final version". When the final retail build is released.

I'm just pointing out the benefits of choosing a 2Gb card, as stated in the other post from the where I quoted, generally [H] is a trusted source of info.

You may well be right about the 6950 2Gb. After all, you would expect 2Gb to be more versatile than than a similar card with only 1Gb, which is why I was surprised when I first saw the benchmarks I posted.

But if it comes down to which is the better value I don't think the 6950 2Gb is worth the extra £55.

560 2Gb/6950 2Gb are both about the same price point.

BF3 may well become the new rig destroyer, but we won't know until the finished game is available.

Come tomorrow/Wednesday there may well be performance figures up for a hole range of configs.

It still leaves you time to order a card and get it before Friday.
