Hi All,

After some much needed advice about what I need to upgrade to be able to run BF3. I'm trying to do this as cheap as possible which makes it even harder!

I currently run windows vista which I will upgrade to windows 7 ultimate anytime soon x64!

My current PC specs are as follows:

Operating System
MS Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP2
CPU
Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 @ 2.13GHz 33 °C
Conroe 65nm Technology
RAM
2.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 266MHz (4-4-4-31)
Motherboard
Packard Bell BV P5NSLI (Socket 775) 40 °C
Graphics
HP w2207 (1680x1050@60Hz)
256MB GeForce 8600 GTS (BFG Tech) 62 °C
256MB GeForce 8600 GTS (BFG Tech) 61 °C
ForceWare version 285.62
SLI Enabled
Hard Drives
488GB Seagate ST350083 0AS SCSI Disk Device (Fibre)

As much advise would be grately appreciated!

I basically want to do the bare minumum required for now to run the game, then I'm gping to save up and build a brand new pc.

Sorry for my ignorance but how do I find out about PSU?

Open the case panel up, and see what the label says on the side of the PSU, make and model and wattage.

The bare minimum im thinking is remove the SLI cards and replace with a single more powerful item that can then be used in the new PC build and get the ram upto 4GB.

Or just buy a new PSU also and that to can be re-used as the basis of the new build.

Pretty simple,

More ram - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-087-KS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=144

Its cheap and cheerful as you wont be using it on a new build. You do have a free ram slot spare to put this in? not worried about dual channel etc, the 4GB will certainly help, well actually with a 32bit operating system its more like 3.5GB roughly.

Loads of power and a quality oem manufacturer makes these ones.

Do you know how much room lenght wise is in your case from the pci barackets to harddrive cages?

Unfortunately not, I;m a noob when it comes to PC's, I usually take the easy option and buy a new pc.

However I'm sick of pay OTT prices and want to try build my own.

Fitting the psu is as simple as four screws and plugging the same cables in as you take out, the two cards you currently have get pulled out and the new single card in three to slot.

Hi,

I was wondering if this CPU was compatible with my motherboard, have looked around online and cant see if it is!

INTEL E5800 3.2GHz LGA775 DUAL CORE PROCESSOR

Motherboard has a 775 socket, so Im assuming it does?

Don't buy any more parts for the old system such as new CPU's/motherboards, just get a new PSU, GFX and maybe even a nice big case and these can be used in a new build consisting of a new CPU/motherboard and ram and drives.

I understand that but I'm going to need to save up over time to be able to afford bew parts, so was wanting to do slight ammendments on the cheap to play it for the next 6 months when I save up for around £100.
