BattleField 3 will not support XP

That is good news for gfx. XP is now dead and people need to accept that all good things must pass. W7 is 99.8% as good as XP so hopefully my student £38 deal should last me a few more years/.

W7 is better than XP in so many ways!

XP is aged, not secure, lacking important gaming features (i.e. latest DirectX) and looks like it was designed for a 5-year old to use.

Windows 7 is slick, super fast (especially as it automatically works perfectly with my SSD) and supports all the latest features and applications, with better security.

If you want to be an OS purist, go with Linux!

hmm just read this on there website......

More news from the developers of Battlefield 3 today that will sure make PC gamers happy to hear. In a recent tweet by locust9, he stated that the devs are putting a special amount of effort into BF3 and also stating that this level of effort is even more than normal. Clearly, the devs have been listening to the community and have realized that a console port will not bring the returns that DICE/EA would like.

@U2RoKKeR it will not be exclusive. We are putting special effort into the pc version, even for us, it's extraordinary

Didnt think they would make it just for PC.

Probably be a hyped up piece of dung that will ruin the genre, or FINGERS CROSSED!!!!!!! it'll just be a crappy port for console gamers and PC gamers will end up with a game that does BF2 justice.

Edit: That'll teach me to not read the link before posting.....didn't realise it was DX11 only. Hope it still works with DX10 though as I'm not really ready to upgrade form a GTX280 yet.

It doesn't read like DX11-only to me, all it says is that it is "primarily developed for DX11" and that XP/DX9 is not supported. Seems highly unlikely that they would specifically mention DX9 not being supported but not mention DX10.

I would quite like 64bit only, to force people to stop being thick and buying 32bit operating systems then complaining on OCUK that their 4GB of ram isn't being used.

I was a huge BF2 fan, but now BC2 has taken over. I have high expectations for BF3.

Latest rumour is second half of this year. We'll see.

Though EA has some third-party games like Crysis 2 and Bulletstorm, now they focus more attention to their own game for strengthening competitiveness. The game is designed to compete with Call of Duty: Black Ops from Activision.

Oh dear god please no. That is what MoH was for.

All they need to do is make BF3 like BF2 but with BC2 graphics and a few things from MoH.

Don't mess with it EA.

Seems foolish from a commercial perspective when so many people still use Windows XP and they are in business to make money after all. It hasn't been a wise decision for other games but I'm sure they think they know what they're doing.

It doesn't personally affect me as I'm not into the BF games. If and when BC3 comes out and uses the same engine however, that will affect me but I presume that won't be for over a year. (It will affect EA and Dice more though, because I won't be buying BC3 if it is Vista/W7 only.)

Can't wait! 1942 and BF2 are my favorite multi player games.. ever!

So many hardcore console gamer friends bought gaming PCs after playing battlefield round my house :)

Exactly. DX11 was designed with backwards compatibility in mind. It'll run in DX10 just with features disabled. Ditching DX9 support is a good thing imo. The industry needs to take a step forwards.

If I was an EA shareholder I'd be questioning the wisdom of this move, and I bet the next CoD game from Activision supports DX9 as they seek to maximise revenue.
