Hi all,

i friend of mine has the BF2 delux addition, he used to play it no problem. he then changed his dvd drive and started getting an error message asking him to insert the cd even though it was in the drive.

he the formatted his harddrive and did fresh installs of windows and the game (note the installs were from cd so i guess the drive is working)

now when he trys to play BF2 he clicks on the bf2 icon and gets "BF2.exe has encountered a problem" everytime

has anyone got any idea what could be wrong? and if so any suggestions for fixing the problem?

thanks all

LOKI

Not got a solution for you but i get the exact same issue on my daughters machine , i installed it awhile ago and it went in fine , a while after i formatted the rig then a few weeks later i tried to install BF2 on it again and it simply would not install , the disc is fine as it installs perfect on my machine

She has a SONY dvd rom

Wierd eh ? :(

Uninstall game and search for the registry entries that have been left, delete them.
Install game then Patch 1.3 then set your settings then Defrag. Then never touch your settings again.

You mean for the last 9 months I've lived with the same dvd in the drive as I'd been incorrectly advised that I'd be booted off servers for using a disc image? :(

Mini-images do work, but they don't happen to be legal IIRC. (Punkbuster doesn't do a thing about them as it thinks the real disk is in the drive)

Yup thats right ive used a mini image pretty much from day one and never been booted of a server :)

By mini image, are you referring to using a disc image using something like Daemon tools, or something else?

hopefully not the stupidest question ever? how would he go about searching for the registry entries that were left over?
