Hello all,
I just spent 45 quid on BF3 premium edition, as I was a huge fan of it on the PS3, but just haven't quite had the money to spend on buying it for the PC. Well today I did, waited an age for it to download, then finally figured how to make it actually work and join a server. I have an AMD FX4170 processor running at 4.2 GHz, an EVGA GTX 660 Superclocked and 8GB of RAM. Now the first thing I did was do a bit of messing about in the settings. I found that even running on the lowest settings I get massive framerate drops for no apparent reason. I'm running along and it's running at 70fps, then nothing happens and I'm still running, no explosions or anything, and it'll go to around 10-20, then back up to 70. It seems to repeat this process about once every 5 seconds or so. Anyway, the main point is that I must be doing something wrong? My PS3 was smoother than my PC and my PC is way more powerful? And yes Vsync is off and so is post processing and anti-ailiasing etc etc. I mean, I know BF3 is demanding and I wasn't exactly expecting to play it on ultra but not even on low settings? C'mon...

I have the same problem but it seems to be dependent on the server, some I get random fps spikes down to 30 then other servers its at a constant 60.

nvidia 670
i5 3570k and 8gb ram all overclocked, so yea

Well your setup is better than mine I only have a 460 and it runs like silk on medium.

Maybe you should wait till you've downloaded all the DLC's and then see how it runs.

without exact gpu settings in bf3 its all guess work.

need res all other settings.

make sure you update pb google ftw.

also close any overlays.

make sure firewall isnt blocking. make sure plugins upto date.

check files are all okay in origin for bf3 .

I will have to wait until tomorrow for the DLCs to finish, they take years! I still don't thing that it being finished will make much of a difference if I'm honest. Who knows maybe it will.

I am running at 1080p-1920x1080

I had FPS issues when using an AMD CPU. I just don't think BF3 likes AMD CPUs all too well. When I switched over to Intel the FPS issues stopped (including the micro stutter).

But the servers aren't all that great and nobody seems to play it. Starting to regret this purchase :(

Do you have any friends that play ? thats where its at with this game.

If you like add me to your friends list and then you can hop into whatever server im playing on. I always have a good time playing BF3.

My soldier name is RedDandyLion

Can't see AMD being the issue, used to run an FX4100 just fine housemate has run it fine on a PD and an X4.

If it's anything I would think it was video drivers.
