During the recent cold spell and trying to make the house as warm as possible I noticed how cold our bay window was, the ledge inside was freezing to the touch. I've taken a look and as you can see from the photo there's a gap all around the edge underneath the window. Is this something that has to be there or can it be filled? I'm not even sure what (if any) insulation is inside either. Bearing in mind that my DIY skills are pretty slipshod, what could I do to:
A. Check it and see what's in there.
B. Insulate it better if it's needed.
