Whether you know BB King's music well or not it is not hard to argue that he is not one of the last remaining guitar icons - the men who made the guitar what it is, and set it apart from all other instruments.

We owe part of our love for this instrument to this man who, along with the other greats of his generation, defined an era of music and musicianship...

He has entertained us for decade after decade and is about to take up on a very well deserved retirement. Good luck to a great man.

Criminally, I can't say I've ever really listened to any of his work. I'd like to though as Blues guitar is awesome when played by someone who knows what's going on.

Where do I start?

I guess an anathology of some sort.

BB King - Bb's Blues is a good record though. :)

There's so many recordings, but Live At The Regal is almost universally rated as one of the best. Live At The Apollo is great also, as are the albums live from San Quinten and Cook County (jails).

I've seen BB three times in the last few years and will see him again in March. He's been one of my main guitar influences, together with Eric Clapton and Freddie King.

I like Riding with the King.

Clapton and BB King together.

Saw him live many years ago in a very small club. About 200 people. Absolutely superb.

Yep, another absolute cracker there :)

The trouble (if you like!) with BB is there's so much fantastic material that trying to think of it all off the top of ones head is quite a challenge!! hehe

There's some terrific video/DVD footage too, including the stunning Jazz Channel Presents... concert. If you can lay your hands on the "... and friends" video from '87 it's brilliant too - featuring Albert King, Stevie Ray, Eric, Paul Butterfield and Etta James amongst others.

The new BB King @ 80 is pretty cool as well.
Plus the reasonably new BB King - Ultimate Collection

:D

Yup - just going through my CD collection here...

I had recorded that off the TV when it was on... pretty good stuff... apart from Phil Collins! ;) Stevie Ray plays a good solo on Midnight Hour and Chaka Khan certainly has a loud voice!

I think there are some new BB King reissues on the Ace label but not sure what ones. A track was played on the Craig Charles Funk Show and the guitar sounded real good... very Django!

B.B's great. I'd rather listen to him play than any of the shredders. And to still have his enthusiasm at that age is fantastic. He's been such a big influence on blues guitarists and has really been the link between Blues in the fifties and modern day players. Plus, the man's got hands like coal shovels.

I saw him live years ago in Paris when he toured with U2 on the Lovetown tour.He was absolutely fantastic :D Probably a rare occasion when a 'support' act outclassed the main band....not that U2 wern't superb, but BB King is a hard act to follow
