"Newsbeat is looking for a Trainee Multi-Media Journalist. This is a CreativeAccess scheme for people from a black, Asian or non-white ethnic minority background. Know anyone who'd be suitable?"

Funny to see twitter/reddit etc blow up over this (although it was a stupid move on beeb's part).

It's the BBC, they've been doing this for a while. See also police recruitment events aimed at non-white people etc..

The FA recently announced that they'd be doing similar. I don't have any problem with ensuring that people from all ethnicities and sexualities get an interview, But I feel that the most qualified person should get the role be they white, black, asian, gay, straight etc

positive discrimination is allowed. for some bizzare reason.

it isn't necessarily, the BBC's schemes are allowed because they're training and development programs not job adverts

the police campaigns for non-white people are usually for say recruitment evenings etc.. they won't advertise the new positions elsewhere but they also can't specifically ban white people from applying, a friend (a police officer) shared a post about this on Facebook which contained the contact details for the police recruiter for anyone who wasn't eligible to attend the recruitment event

OP and a bunch of people missed the entire point.

Creative Access Scheme. It says right there.

It's a scheme for minorities. Why would a scheme designed for minorities looking for the majority?

It would be akin to a scheme to get disable people jobs.

That is the Rooney Rule, from American Football.

Why would you want to advertise to blacks, asian and non whites? (apart from being racist)

Well if BBC can be racist in job applications can I be too?

To encourage more BAME into an industry where they are under represented.

And that depends, why would you want to post a racist advert?

It's still discrimination.

If I set up a "white straight male" group and advertise jobs it's still discriminationatory to all non white straight males.

With this known there's not really anything to complain about. On the surface where people are looking though.. racism!

What if its a scheme to get disabled people jobs?

Are you going to be upset about that too?
Are you really saying that white people aren't in the same group as BAME, but BAME are in the group alongside disabled. Do you know how derogatory you sound.

'Positive' discrimination is a joke, and the last thing it is is positive.
