I think this will be a huge hit for the Wii. Be good to watch your shows that you missed in the comfort of your living room rather than your PC.

Says the service is available from today (9th April) through the Internet Channel. But possibly becoming a Channel of its own if i read the article correctly.

It is only available in the UK to license-fee payers.

I've been using the iPlayer service a lot even though we don't have a tv license here at uni - the T&C's say you do not need one last I read them - so how come this is now saying you do if you use it through a Wii ?

Is that due to most people using their Wii through a TV ? Mines plugged into my pc monitor ...

They aren't going to know if you have a tv license though are they?

Can't see it being any different as it doesn't matter in the slightest what type of display device you use to watch the content. Unless it's live or there's a change in the law you don't need a license.

Just watched the Chinese school program on it now and for an early beta its really good stuff. Once they tweak the encoding and picture size stuff/get out an iplayer channel it will be an awesome selling point.

What's the quality like? I presume its fullscreen?

Currently it runs from the browser only from what I can see but their news page makes it clear that they want to have a stand alone (free) Wii channel for it and address the issues of filling the screen. Quality was certainly good enough to watch on the old CRT we have the Wii hooked up to here but I had to zoom on the browser to get the best 'fit'. I guess if people are hooked up to big HD sets the quality right now may be much worse. Need someone to try it out really. It streamed without a single hitch in playback though.
