I expect everyone already knows about this already but I thought I will post just in case..

My gf was watching eastenders today on the downstairs pc as we had been away over christmas. How you doing that says I? BBC iplayer says she.
Well I was very impressed. I had heard about this and though it was a drm infested nightmare but no, it just streams from a website.

We fired it up on the media centre pc on the 50" tv and yes the quality is a little bit low, but certainly quite watchable. Once she had finished watching her drivel I caught up with the dr who episode xmas special had missed.
Big thumbs up, really nice to find something like this that just works :)

Then I pushed my luck too far and tried the channel 4 od thing, mistake, 'your drm blah blah blah' CLICK > UNINSTALL

There is certainly nothing left running in the background once the webpage is closed & no application is required to be installed to stream programs, it just uses flash.
I guess you install the iplayer app if you want to download things, I would think the drm nonsense would kick in then & make it unusable.

Streaming programmes

Streaming is the way you can simply click to play and watch a programme as soon as it is available on the BBC iPlayer website. This is designed to work on any computer in the UK, including Windows, Macintosh, Linux or other operating systems, as long as it can run the latest version of Flash and access the BBC iPlayer website.
