BBC PS3 Price Cut Poll.

The other problem is the residual value of any games that they decide to bundle! If they throw in Motorstorm and RfoM, then those games effectively become valueless as everyone will already have them......but then this is something Sony are eager to stop any way.

I still cannot fathom why they have not decided to bring the 20gb version over here? Surely they could pretty much kill 360 sales if it the same price. I would buy one for about £250 tomorrow. I am not bothered about wireless or a big hdd. Surely this would have been a far better strategy??? Oh and it wouldnt die every five mins!

It would cost them more to manufactur a 20GB version than the 60GB one. It's simple supply and demand economics - there is no real demand for 20GB HDD's anymore so less companies are manufacturing them, therefore they cost more. 60Gb's will be on their way out pretty soon too as you will notice that the entry level on most laptops now is 80-100GB.

Yes, but I think what he was refering to was the other cost savings with the 20gb version - ie not wifi/memorycard readers etc.

Dont forget the US price isnt $500 dollars as it does not include taxes, so the UK price would be £350. Still more but dont forget the strength of the Pound, shipping costs, import duty and the fact that the UK average wage is about 30-40% more than the US. I dont think selling over 1.1 million consoles in about 4 months is that bad, probably better than any other region.

But state tax is nothing compared to VAT, think Florida is 11% so that would be about £275 for a PS3 with state tax.

Ok this kinda back up my thoughts that i posted earlier. I win though as it was posted just an hour ago. :p

Analyst predicts price drop once 60GB model sells out

Industry analyst Michael Pachter expects the 80GB PlayStation 3 to drop in price to USD 499 once all stock of the 60GB model has sold out.

The 80GB model currently retails in North America for USD 599 with a copy of Evolution Studio's Motorstorm, but Pachter believes the newly introduced unit will drop in price for the standalone console.

"In our view, the Sony entry level price of USD 499 is here to stay," he said.

"We believe that there are presently 2 – 3 million 60GB PS3's produced and not yet sold, and expect the entire supply to be diverted to the US to honour the new lower price point.

"Once these units are sold through, we expect the company to lower the price of its 80GB model to USD 499 on a standalone basis."

Sony Europe boss David Reeves revealed last week the 60GB PS3 would be phased out in the US, leaving the 80GB SKU as the only option to consumers.

The analyst also predicted that Sony will again cut the price of the 80GB PS3 in early 2008.

"We expect the USD 499 price cut to be maintained until early next year, when the 80GB model will likely be cut again to USD 399," he said.

Paying higher prices in the UK compared to abroad is by no means a new thing, nor is it limited to games consoles.
Amen.

Also, e-petitions and e-polls are a waste of time - they never change or influence anything.

The price drop thing is crap seeing as for £425 99% of retailers were giving away the PS3 with a game anyway. (1 controller included)

All Sony have done is given an extra game (selected) most of the selected games are about 30 quid new and the controller is 27.

It's no competition to the 360 it's still going to be classed as "expensive".

I don't think Sony could afford to drop the price because PS3 is still very expensive to manufacture. They are somehow struck in a situation that they can't do anything about it but hope it will sell.

i think that bundling the extra controller is a clever ploy by Sony in getting rid of all them spare controllers before they release and make standard the new rumble six-axis.

True the only way is to vote with your wallet. I find that quite easy to do when there isn't a "killer" app and 80% of the games released and coming out are on the rival, cheaper console.

Sony should treat their customers with a little more respect. The generation that loved the Playstation are more mature now and aren't going to pay that much for so little game wise (at this point in time).
