I think this belongs in GD even though it's about distributed computing.

The BBC are running a distributed computing project about climate change here. They're asking people to donate their spare clock cycles to help predict climate change.

Am I the only one that thinks this is a strangely stupid idea? Running your CPU on 100% for days on end will use loads of extra electricity, thus causing even more global warming through burning of fossil fuels.

It's aimed at the people who leave their PC's on any ways. Therefore making no real change
