So, last night I saw Sucker Punch. I thought it was alright, but regardless of the quality of the film, how the hell was it only a 12A certificate? It's main themes were prostitution and sexual exploitation, how on earth could that be suitable for a 12 year old? 15 seems much more reasonable to me.
Also, it seems that the classification system has most certainly become more lax, you only need to see that most of the original Aliens films which were an 18 could probably get away with a 15 certificate now.
I'm aware that the BBFC have a set of criteria that defines a rating given to a film and that the certificate can have a big impact on the release of a film, but IMO, the BBFC are losing the plot a little and not really fit for purpose any more.
Anyone agree with this? If so, can you think of any more examples of poor classifications?
