I had a similar problem with BBM a while back, but after a short time it all updated ok on its own, after the first update further updates came quite quickly

Sometimes the pics wont update straight away, i get that but usually give it a bit of time and they update by themselves....lately i think BBM is having a few issues as they just released BBM6 which is the newest version of BB...major differences are you can now tie in apps to use with BBM but the apps need to be compatible with BBM6...apps like scoremobile, foursquare plus a few other ones work in conjunction with BBM.
