Ok so, homebase have 20% off this weekend, and I've got a £150 voucher for them. So I was thinking about getting a bbq.

However.... what do you guys think... gas or charcoal?

We had a gas and swapped it for a charcoal. It's just less faffing about. To be honest, and I don't know why, but cooking on it is more satisfying.

Get a Webber kettle and a load of lumpwood charcoal and one of those speed charcoal lighters.

Others will say gas is best some will say charcoal is best and one will say why bother use an oven.

Gas is quicker yes and more stable but gets filthy with grease and you faf around with ignitions / bottles and pipes. Charcoal takes longer but is more manly.

Would that be a charcoal chimney? I'm thinking of making one.

Ooh thats excellent. Might buy my dad one for fathers day!

Am i right in thinking you stuff everything into that tube, light it, leave it a bit to burn and then pour the burning coal into the BBQ?

Yep but you put the tube on the bbq so once it's all going you just lift it off the coals and they're already in the grill.

Ahh that ones meant for the weber portable bbqs. Says Not suitable for 47cm or 57cm Kettle BBQs.

Think I'll get the 47cm weber @ £63.99.

Maybe then I will get a chimnea or firepit?

Personally I used to have both!

A nice compact gas one and a nice big manly charcoal one.

The gas one is used as a 'spur on the moment' bbq as it is so simple to light and gets up to cooking temperature in a matter of minutes. It's very useful for when I get home from work and decide an evening bbq would be good

The charcoal one is for proper bbq days, ones where it's sunny all day and you can invite friends round and make an event of it!
