Want to play BC2 on high quality, i currently have a 260 gtx and was wondering if this will be good enough ? Im not sure if my mb supports sli, if it does i could pick up a second 260 gtx for £100 or so, but then would my 750w corsair non modular be meaty enough ?

Also do you get better quality using display port if both gfx card and monitor support it ?

The monitor is a 24" Dell U2410 thingy!

how much are you wanted to spend ?

i would say a GTX470 would be good enough.

or the 1GB 460 if u want to save abit of money should handle it ok

1 260 plays it ok...but I had 2 260s in SLI and it was a HUGE improvement. Your PSU will be fine, but both the cards and the PSU will be fairly noisy.

I would rather sell the 260 and grab a GTX 460

460 will handle it ok but at that res will probably have to lower settings,

To be sure a HD5870/GTX470/GTX480 will handle it at max settings.

I've just completed the single player @1920 max settings (inc HBAO) and 8xCSAA, and it was fine with a GTX460 (oc to 850mhz) :)

How far ahead in fps in BC2 is a 460 vs a 260 ? I have a 260 but cant find any benchmarks with a 260 on.

Compared to my old gtx280, it's miles ahead! I've no numbers, but I couldn't max out the settings, use HBAO or have any AA with the gtx280.. And I can with my gtx460 :)

You have a few options.

I would say 5850 or 470 minimum.

However if you are on a budget, you may get away with a 460..... but the 5850 or 470 will give you more grunt looking forward.

Also before you make a decision, wait for thr 6000 ATI series, then see what available and or benefit from any price drops.

i only ever did single player in bc2 but at 1980x1020 i had all the settings maxed out in dx11 with 32xaa and 16xaf forced and barely ever went below 50fps (with a GTX460)

get a 470 if u can afford it though

BC2 seems to scale well depending on how much cpu grunt you have.

In all honesty, before my new 5870 (which playes the game maxed settings at 1920x1200) my 3870x2, perfectly capable of playing the game at medium settings, and I cant see a difference in medium vs all max settings....

Strange, my rig runs it maxed with full AA at 1080 res, thats with a 285oc, again I couldnt give FPS figures, but its always smooth.

Think i might have HBAO turned off though, dunno what that is, but cant see any effect it has in game.

Just gone BFG 260 GTX OC to MSI 460 HAWk @ 860 MHz (probably push it higher when I've got the time to test a bit more). Got to be OCCT stable for me (yes I know it's not very representative of real world loads... but everyone is entitled to their own opinion). And from my own testing (not benchmarks off articles etc. as good as I'm sure they are) I would put the performance increase around 60% (depending on game). And that's from looking at both synthetic benchmarks (Vantage, Heaven etc.), game benchmarks and from actually gaming. I would also put this at around the performance of a stock 470 clocked at this level. Again that is from my own experience comparing the same bench marks etc. against a friends PC of an identical spec. (it should be, as I built both PC's at the same time) but he now has a 470 running at stock. Obviously an OC'd 470 would pull away though.

But.... the "logical" choice is a 470 at today's prices. But when ever was making that decision "logical". Certainly not for me, I just fancied a MSI 460 HAWK. Can't say even that any of the current games I'm playing were even struggling. No pockets in a shroud, that's what I say.

Might consider SLI'ing it later in the year when I rebuild.

Enjoy

PS. You would pick up a 2nd 260 for a lot less than £100. Mines still up for sale on the MM.

An overclocked 460 is slightly slower on average when compared to a 5850 at stock.

Overclock the 5850, and it is on average 10-20% quicker.
