BC2 crashing all the time

Hey guys, not sure if this is the right section but here I go anyway.

I just recently got an MSI 580 Lightning and am having a lot of trouble playing Bad Company 2 with it. I can play from anywhere between 5-30 mins and then the game will suddenly crash/close down without any kind of warning or driver crash.

What happens is the screen will distort and I get what look like artifacts then the game will just close down, this all happens in the space of a couple of seconds. That's not where it ends though. When I am back on the desktop if I try to open any programs like IE then it will be all distorted like something is wrong with the vram and the program will stop responding, this happens with other programs also like my sound card control panel or anything I open afterwards really. The only way to sort it is to resart the computer.

I know it isn't a heat related problem as I have Afterburner open on my second screen and can monitor the temps at all time.

Bad Company 2 is the only game this happens with, and only happens while playing in DX10 or DX11 mode, DX9 is ok as far as I can tell as I left the game running for an hour and when I came back everything was ok.

I have tried multiple drivers (270.90, 275.33, 275.36, 275.55) and the problem persists.

I just ran Heaven 2.5 fine for an hour before posting this and everything was fine, I also have no problems running 3DMark Vantage or 11. I have also played 6 hours of Civ5, Metro 2033 and ran 60 runs of the GPU Benchmart tool for Crysis, all without any kind or problem.

I do not have the card overclocked and have tried upping the voltage a small amount with stock clocks just to be sure, this did not halp my BC2 problem and it still crashes like I have stated above.

Here is a screen cap of Afterburner showing my temps and whatnot after Heaven 2.5 for 1 hour.

I am running BC2 at max settings with 16x AF and 32x CSAA (although setting AA lower has no effect and still causes crashes).

Full system specs are:

Phenom II x4 @4Ghz
MSI GTX 580 Lightning
Corsair 4GB 1600Mhz
XFX Pro Edition 850w

Any help would be great.

If you are running Afterburner or any other hardware monitoring software then you need to edit or disable it to prevent Punkbuster conflict which causes the crashes.

Rename RTCore.cfg in AB and it should work.

sauce

I am only playing single player though, havn't even tried mp yet. Just bought the game on Monday.

I'll give this a try though.

Yeah man cheers for that :), seems punkbuster is open even when only playing SP. If you don't hear from me again you'll know it's sorted.

Renaming RTCore.cfg disables any kind of voltage control/monitoring for me :(

Afterburner has been a cause of many issues for me lately so I just disabled it all together.
