I bought the retail copy of BC2 but now my son wants to buy it through steam.

Would it be possible to copy my game files to his steam apps folder, then he purchases BC2 through steam.

Would it work?

Yes this would work BUT you will find you get errors/ problems with the game this way.

I can remember people doing this with i pirate iso and a legit key and they ended up with problems.

Yes it does work and unlike what 1mm3 says, there are absolutely 0 problems because it is an identical file. I know a few people who do it and if you really want to make sure run an integrity check, it should find nothing.

Sure you put it in the right place? Other than it could just be steam on the blink, assuming you both have it bought for the account obviously.

Put it in C:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Battlefield Bad Company 2

Done an integrity check.

But still says "This Game is Currently Unavailable"

I think i've had this before. Leave the files in the common folder, but try to download the game. Steam should pick up the files.

Yea i would do that and see if steam picks it up, failing that remove the files, start downloading, close steam, and copy the files into the folder, and in theory steam should see it as finished and working.

Fixed it...

I deleted all the files and PB directory inside "Battlefield Bad Company 2" and kept the other directories, restarted steam and let it re-download the files (about 5mins) now it works perfectly.

He's very happy and it runs very well on his 5770 :)

If all else fails, revert to old faithfull..

Delete .blob file in Steam folder and restart Steam.

As said above..

Begin download, copy files into the folder is created.

Close Steam, reopen it then verify file integrity.

Hi just so others know i also did this with a mates copy and it did work after a verify files, only said it needed 10 or so files and has been fine since
