Hi,

It looks like BCA are making a concession to fleet vendors by holding their first physical auction for over three years this week at Nottinham on Friday.
Not sure if it is open to the public or if it is a trade only auction. Their website did not indicate trade only when I checked unless I missed it?

Assume they've been reluctant because it's easier to shift vehicles that have unrecorded category damage that's been bodge fixed when the client can't physically see the car before sales

Do you still have to be in the trade to register? The website suggests that they're still not accepting registrations from the public.

Which is a shame, I'd love to pop down to Blackbushe for a gander one day.

From watching a few youtube videos and online chatter, the resumption might be due to pressure from fleet vendors who are possibly getting better prices from auction companies such as Manheim who are holding physical auctions.

It is unknown if all BCA centres will resume, chatter has it that it might be regional, one per regional area?
To be confirmed.

One thing is certain, dealers will lose some of their squeal factor when trying to nip private buyers at the over inflated prices prevalent for the last three years.
Sure, some private buyers of used cars always want the reassurance of a dealers warranty/backup. However, for those prepared to take the auction route it can only be a good thing if BCA resume physical auctions to any degree.

Of all the cars I have owned, every one apart from one was bought at a BCA physical auction. You cant go far wrong at auctions if you are looking at cars up to three or four years old provided you do a bit of research.

Whenever I went in the past it was just a matter of walking up to the reception desk to get a catalogue and registering to bid, quick breakfast and then off to wave the arm big style.

I think the registration might be for online bidding. I have access to a BCA account login but it is the grade below the level entitled for bidding online.
It does however let me view stock and condition reports etc.

I'd just like to login and have a mooch about, but I can't register without proof of Trader insurance or any of that stuff.

You might be able to get a business login that is below the online bidding grade.

As far as I am aware, all that is needed for this is some type of business ID.
However, things may have changed in the past three years since covid and perhaps only people with bona fide motor trade credentials are given logins nowadays?

The login I use is not for an accredited motor trader, it is just a general business ID.
