Ok, I know I have made a few threads about this now but most have died a few weeks ago and I have a lot more information now.

The Issue:
I am getting Bluesceen 124 errors.

When:
Problem has been here for a few months. In the last 2days I have had 6 crashes. 2 when using VLC with a DVD, 3 when using youtube and 1 when using winamp. Problem is getting more frequent but not enough to be able to cause on demand. Sometimes I can go 3 weeks without a crash, other times 5mins.

What I have tried:
CPU: Tested the CPU using Prime95 and IBT, both stable with OC and at stock.
RAM: Ran memtest86+ and it passed.
GFX: Changed from a Radeon HD4870 to a GTX470, tried multiple drivers.
Sound: Disabled onboard sound in windows and BIOS, bought an ASUS D1. Also have disabled HDAudio on GTX470.
PSU: Has been changed.
HDD: Changed from 2 Raptors in Raid0 to a Samsung F3.
Windows: Reinstalled at least 3 times.
Cables: Recabled the whole system.
Drivers: Tried combinations of drivers for all hardware.

Things I dont know how to test:
Motherboard.

Seriously...what the hell is going on? Its almost got to the point now where I cant work properly on my machine. It doesnt seem to crash in games bar PvZ once, it doesnt crash when idling on desktop or using office applications. There seems to be a trend in it crashing with media applications.

Ideas?

If my brain is working right then 124 is usually memory problems or drivers, you seem to have done everything I can think of to test your drivers so....I would test the machine with one stick of RAM and use it for a bit, then swap them round and see if there is any difference between the two/three. Also ive had instances where memtest has passed but the vista/win 7 DVD memory testing tool has shown up errors. Something else to try on it.

Where would I find this memory testing tool in Windows 7? That sounds to be useful.

The only consistant drivers that I can think of would be chipset?

In windows 7, it should be under the Administrative Tools control panel as Memory Diagnostics Tool or just do a search for mdsched in the start menu search box.

I'm actually have this same BSOD at the moment as well.
I think 124 is pretty much a generic - there's a hardware problem - stop code.
From analysis of my dump files - it is hal.dll that is throwing it.

Comments i've seen suggest it is to do with the CPU or Memory not getting enough voltage.
So was probably going to play around with the memory settings this evening and see if that resolves it.

What motherboard/CPU/Memory combo are you using?

Its in my sig, but I am running a Q6600 @ 3.6Ghz, Biostar TPower i45 and Corsair 4Gb XMS2.

I heard that CPU and memory thing before, but I have also read it could be the Audio card, Nvidia issues, windows corruption issues...seems thtat different things solve it for different people. The computer 124s at stock BIOS settings too so I am ruling out voltage issues. The system has been running 22months solid, but last few months hasnt been too well... :(

So even though I can stress test my CPU for over 16hours in Prime95 at stock or with my overclock wouldnt count out that it could be the CPU?

Ok so I upgrade to my i5 system today and so far no issues at all. I am assuming then it was the motherboard and I will probably look to test the CPU for errors just incase, but I am sure it was the motherboard playing up.

Thanks for all the help guys.
