A word of warning, just took delivery of my 5870, whem l un-wrapped it. My 5870 was covered in condensation due to the cold weather and been in the back of a cold van, so have placed my 5870 next to the radiator to dry out about a hour.
So just to be on the safe side any components you get delivered put them in a warn place to dry out even if there is no condensation on the outside there still could be some on the inside, while the weather is very cold. As well as shorting the component out , you could damage others. ;)

I will bare that in mind, I should be taking delivery of a 5970 any day now. Dont wanna bust that one! haha

Does condensation cause shorts? I thought that pure H2O was nonconductive, but I'm not sure if consensation is pure water .

However, I'd still let it dry out to be on the safe side. :)

Condensation won't be pure as there's lots of stuff in the air, but more importantly on the surface of the card that it's condensed on. I doubt that's clean. A bit of water will allow conduction, so yes, I could see it being a big promblem if it's wet.
