I had an email from BE this morning saying they are upgrading their core network blah blah blah. They say it's an easier process if I was to relinquish my static IP address for a dynamic one.

I shouldn't have any worries about doing so, should I? AFAIK, my needs don't require one. I don't host anything.

If you don't host or have any access requirements then no, no problems really.

It's good that they've contacted you though.

Thanks. Now I just have to figure out how to get the Thomson TG587n v2 to use a dynamic IP address. The setup wizard only seems to give options for 'bridged' and 'static'.

Yes, it will affect everyone but the static IP users will have to change the firmware on their routers if they do not want to get a dynamic IP address. I CBA faffing about with firmware so I just chose the easier option.

Hmmm... I use the supplied router as a modem only and then use a Cisco router (2621XM) to do NAT. Do you know if I will just need to change my IP address on the outside interface?

I'm not sure - they are asking everyone with a static IP to update their firmware. Unless this is just for the BeBox in order to get the DNS/IP/subnet stuff into the firmware.

I woke up this morning with the Internet offline and just reset the router from the web interface and it rebooted with a dynamic IP. All went swimmingly. I was surprised. LMAO.

You will need to change your 2621XM interface unless it gets it from the modem
