Be honest, how easy is it too....

It's not that difficult - basically everything is "keyed" and will only connect into the proper place. That was you can't put your DDR into a PCI slot, etc.

Ever play with Lego Technics when u were a kid? it's pretty much the same thing, follow the instructions and common sense and u'll be fine. gl

Agreed! Alough people have different learning skills. I would say it is as easy as you want it to be. Aslong as you have common sense.

when i built mine, it wouldnt power on. mobo borked. replaced. hapened again. and then another two times.

i then realised i never put the 4pin CPU adapter HAHA.

Make sure whatever case you get is going to be easy to work in. If things to go wrong, it'll just make your life more difficult. As has already been mentioned, a working PC with a net connection can be an absolute life saver.

I built my first PC quite drunk(not intentionally!) and everything went fine, probably one of the most stable machines I ever used. I don't recommend getting drunk, however nervous you get, but staying calm and not panicing goes a long way.

I very recently helped a friend build one over the phone, and until I suggested hoovering out his old machine, I don't think he had even looked inside one before. Aside from a faulty HDD and subsequent OS installion problems, he got it all sorted in a night. It's all in the groundwork.

Make sure everything is compatible, read reviews. It's half the fun.

Another couple of things ...
1). Make sure you are building it somewhere with plent of free space where you can unpack things and move things around as you are working on them. Makes things a lot easier.

2). Take your time. People will say "Oh I build a box in 15mins" or whatever .. you know what, it's not a race. Take it slowly and steadily and treble check everything. If you get unsure stop and look at what you are doing and any information you have (and of course you can ask on here). Don't just blunder on and destroy something.

edit: a small torch can be quite useful as you tend to find at times you are working in the way of any light you have.

For me the best bit of building a PC completely from scratch is seeing all the boxes sitting on your desk waiting to be opened.

The worst bit is pressing the power button for the first time, and absolutely nothing happens. :D I've been there many times.

Heh, brings back memories :)

I'm always a bit drunk when I build a PC...well not always, but it makes it more fun. Building computers sober is like.....fishing sober.
