Reading around so many people repeat lines like 'save it for the track', 'i never get into races' etc etc...

With this being a motoring forum and a lot having higher perf cars, does no-one honestly exceed speed limits / traffic light gp / have abit of fun on the road from time to time ?

I'd admit to exceeding limits sometimes, but only for quick bursts where I think it's safe...

I also play traffic light GP when challenged, immature maybe but it's fun....

I think people should start being honest, I know it's cool to yell 'save it for the track' on the interweb, but if you really meant that, why have a high perf car on the road ?. No NSL road I know is actually fun at 60mph, not in the slightest... at 80+ they become fun.

Why have 300bhp if you never exceed 60mph ?

Just my 2 pence..

(this post inspired by the morons who don't like being overtaken thread, that tbh had me spitting blood with some of the comments)

I regularly exceed the speed limit, as I'll generally drive to the conditions rather than a number on the pole.

I'll also partake in traffic light GPs if they come up, I find it quite amusing.

I agree 110%....

Lets face it most 'pole' speeds are set by some fat balding council fool who doesn't know how to drive ;)

I cant afford to drive like a nob on the road, if I get caught and given points or even get a ban I loose my race license and im sorry ive worked too long and hard for that to say goodbye to if for 5 mins fun teaching plebs manners on the road

how is accel hard from lights or maybe getting up to 80mph in a NSL on a empty road driving like a 'nob' ?

most people don't have race lics, and even if they do spend most time on the roads... I know lots of people with race lics and they still drive quite quick and 'spirited', ie having fun.

having a race lic doesn't mean your any better than anyone else, and the fact you stick to limits like glue and don't have fun on the road is just your choice I guess... (the reason I mention you think your better is the bit you said about 'teaching normal mortals manners by beating them hmmmm :(, your no different than anyone else by your own admission.. your just abit more dull ;))

I appreciate all that and im not making out to be any better than anyone else etc ( I do have 9 years ARDS instructing experiance and a saloon championship title to my name but dont let that get in the way ) ... perhaps im getting older, I just dont see the point in it anymore.. theres nothing wrong with giving your car or bike a blat from the lights if you feel like it, but to sit in a one point bugger all hatchback ( or for that matter a 2 stroke step through) revving the nuts off it in the hope that you can get a race, or tailgaiting the m sport saloon thats just overtaken you on the m way to regain some loss of face IS pointless.. im not the "speed police" and I do enjoy an empty stretch of road but at the end of the day if you want to drive balls out do it on a track, where theres plenty of saftey equipment and nothing but armco to hit... dont do it on the public highway. Thats not preaching... thats just common sense surely?

I guess, but there is something strangely satisfying about leaving a Saxo with a 10 inch tailpipe full of spotty kids 1 mile down the road from the lights. Deflates ego of Saxo driver, jobs a good'un. Maybe will make them rethink the capabilities of their motor and make them a safer driver for it.... *maybe*

If you can't drive a car responsibly, I think it should be taken away from you until you've grown up. I know I sound like a stuck up ***, but if you look at this objectively you'll see racing or being stupid on the roads just isn't worth it, and it's essentially a selfish act with no regard for others. It's certainly never worth someone's life.

I wonder whats the point of the car you have in your sig then ?, would you poodle along at 60 if you owned it ?

is it your dream to own it and drive like that ?

ps: edit: I've never killed anyone

Way to miss the point chap.

If I had a lambo I'd take it to the track for sure, that's where it's meant to be. No harm in driving it around town, but if it never saw the track it'd be a total waste.

Also, 60 isn't poodling around town, and it's about 10 mph less than the max speed on a motorway.

I'm glad you've never killed anyone, keep it up. Most people don't, but that's no justification for speeding or being a willy.

60mph is not fast, nor does it feel fast on any NSL road.

It's called having fun m8, and 60mph on your average a / b road just isn't

A Lambo ain't built for the track, it's a road car...unless I'm mistaken.
