Somewhere I shouldn't be!
BT have really upset me with their non-existant call centre and non-understanding of my line issues in the past week or so, so much in fact that I am considering moving ISPs.

In my area (Nottingham), I can get BT, Virgin, Sky, Be and O2.

I dont fancy Virgin as it is ex Ntl and I hate them, Not interested in Sky or any of their packages, leaving me with Be and O2, both offering ADSL2.

My contract with BT expires in October of this year, and if I decide to move I will pay my way out of it.....

I phoned Be today and they said I would get 6 Meg, I was shocked when he said this, as on my current ADSL line I was getting 6 - 7 Meg (until BT ballsed it up and left me with 2.5).

So I am hoping that this is underestimated, could anyone here tell me what their stated speed was? and what they actually got?

I know this will not be accurate as line speed varies for everyone, I am just looking to see if it is worth hanging on with BT and keep on hassling them to sort out my problem, or just jump ship.

Also what are people's opinions on Be in terms of support etc.....?

Thanks in advance.

Be and O2 are one and the same.
You'd be better getting your attenuation, SNR margin and the speed your modem's connected at, and sticking it into the estimator in the sticky. Be typically underestimate but anything's possible.

just on Be 8MB today. 2km away from Exchange!

ISP's will always give an extremely conservative figure so they don't get loads of customers coming back to them complaining they aren't getting their quoted speed.

thinking of going BE because VM is going down the shi**er faster than a vindaloo, haven't been up with adsl for awhile so i take it BE are amongst the best right now????

£25 back via quidco with o2 and I believe something similar with BE.
All connections are G.992.5 annex A
By way the best connections are using a broadcom chipset routers Thomson such as they prove or the Netgear broadcom routers
Good forum here:

Web sites are up in a flash, this shows on Be superiority on one of the sad Car detailing sites or the photography bit in this the pictures load up before I even notice on Be.

The big worry was games but played BF2 PR for two hours on a ping 26ms. I never thought it would make a difference but it’s huge, I can fly planes in it now and I can actually shot people now. I became a good player on Virgin but last night I’d say I was great……head shots you name it.

Just done a test download and as expected it was great.

In all very happy although it a bit unfair as its just under 8mb I’m getting on the 8mb service to compare to Virgin 2mb is a bit like saying my 200 pmh car is faster than a Astra. Nothing wrong with the Astra that’s just its speed. Apart from the price Virgin was ok for me but I had a feeling its was going Pete tong.

Thanks for all the replies guys.......

As an update BT are sending an engineer tomorrow, Also it will cost me £120 to terminate my current contract!!!

So I will see what happens tommorrow, if it is fixed, it will stay until my contract runs out and then I will make the move to Be. If they dont fix it, I will pay up and move over.

How did you get them to test/check/estimate this? Was it before you signed up, or during the signing up process

the 4mb was what they quoted to me on the phone during the signon process

the 11mb is what im getting now, having been with them over a year now (just) :)
