Be Quiet 650w buzzing noise!

If a passing Don could have a look at this it would be appreciated!

I'm ready to give up on Be Quiet - they aren't replying now and so I'm seemingly stuck with this psu! :(

I purchased it from the Overclockers shop (the actual shop) about 3 weeks ago- is it at all possible to get an exchange for a different brand (with me covering any difference in cost of course) or a refund?

I would send a webnote but it gets bounced without an order number....

Cheers!

do they have a phoneline? complain to a manager i would. be quiet psu that squeals, how ironic.

how long have you had it? if youre at your wits end speak to a manager and demand a refund (if eligible)

Put it to them that their calculator flat-out lies.

Looking at the source code, it is claiming that your GTX285 draws 500w:

Code:
VGA_values_2[88]["name"] = "GeForce GTX285";
VGA_values_2[88]["watt"] = "500.00";
Ask them where they got that number from when nVidia's own specifications give a maximum of 204w for that card. Do they know better than the people who make the damn thing, or are they just trying to make a quick buck?

If your PSU is faulty, they can't palm you off with that site because the figures it uses are simply invalid.

One possible explanation is that its sloppy research and someone googled to find power requirements and took figures from reviews which report power for system from wall socket. However fact that their support seems refuse to check data when present with what seems like a clear contradiction of their figures doesn't inspire confidence.

Similar issue mate: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17946111

Mine audibly squeals when overclocked, but still squeals (just much more quietly) when not.

Today the PSU blew up. Big bang and bright flash = dead PSU. Sending it back to the reseller on monday, hopefully for a quick turn around.

If the one I get back also squeals, I may think about either selling the new PSU on or trying to get a swap for a different brand/more powerful PSU.

You can get power filters/surge protectors that may fix the issue. unfortunately ocuk don't sell them.

They are basically just a tiny extension for the pci-x power connector, before it goes into the gfx card. They cost only a few quid, it maybe worth a try sourcing some.

Update.

Got a new PSU through (same make/power etc) no squeal at all when overclocked.

I guess it was faulty from day one and it was just a matter of time until the cap blew. If yours is squealing I would fight to get a replacement.

As said, that power supply should be fine. If you've still got your invoice that will have your order number on there, that will allow you to get a webnote sent in (or give me a shout on my msn, see profile). If it's as bad you describe, swapping it or changing it over to a different brand won't be a problem.

Once you're all sorted I will get it sent back to them so we can get our replacement.

Thats why Be Quiet only provides 2 PCI-E connectors for Dark Power 650 watts. And the stupid PSU calculator is absolutely rubbish at all. With an Enermax 620 watt PSU you get 4 PCI-E connectors and you can power two high end cards without any problem.
