Just been trying to figure out what is making an awful screeching noise (especially when overclocked) - thought it was my graphics card (285 gtx) but have now realised it's the be quiet 650w psu that is doing it as well!

Do they all do this - i.e. should I be looking at getting a replacement be quiet or looking for an alternative make?

I presume this is coil whining and there is no way to fix it?

I have the same psu with a GTX 280 with no noises. I would give a replacement a go first. There is no solution for you to sort the coil out without replacing the psu.

Yeah, you can try a replacement, but it's pot luck really. I had my Zalman replaced for this very issue and the new one is miles better, but there is still a little screeching.

What I found was that if I forced vsync the screeching was much less noisy.

Choosing better brand next time

Why did you choose Be Quiet at all? Currently there are much better brands on the market. When I see a 650 watt power supply with only 2 PCI-E connectors, I would never buy it. How will you ever get use of the power? Better brands have 4 PCI-E connectors in the 600 watt range, e.g. Enermax.

I dont think Enermax is a better brand than Be Quiet!.

I am a strong believer in the saying "you get what you pay for", and in the Be Quiet! case, you are paying for (assumingly) high spec components, and the safety that if your PSU does blow, the high quality components will stop the rest of your hardware from blowing up too.

Enermax premium range of PSUs are just as good as Be Quiet!, price is only a general guide.

BeQuiet cost more cause your paying German wages and the euro is strong.
