Hi

I have just tried to upgrade to a core i7 with an asus p8p67 motherboard and am using a Be Quiet dark rock advanced cooler.

When I go into the bios the CPU fan speed is only reading as 600ish rpm and the CPU temp is about 41 degrees C.

I am sure that the fan is fitted correctly and have used arctic silver paste.

Is there a setting that I can adjust to speed up the fan as I know it can do 1500rpm at 100%. Any ideas on what is going on here would be helpful.

The fan is under PWM control of your motherboard and spins at it's lowest duty cycle when the temperature is below a certain theshold, which is determined by a BIOS setting normally. If you want full speed connect the fan to a different header (will require a BIOS setting change to ignore CPU fan speed) or adjust the control method in BIOS to have a more aggressive cooling option. If you load up your CPU with prime95 or something you should see this speed increase as your CPU temperature increases.

Thanks

It's just in the efi bios the CPU fan speed is ridiculously low on the graph, even red at one point. So if the processor is put under load then it will pick the speed up.

Is 41 degrees an acceptable temp at boot as I thought it would have been lower. I know that the cooler should keep the processor at about 53 when overclocked.

Have read on other forums that the asus bios temp reading is not the same as in windows. Since I can't get to windows yet (due to hard drive issues) I can't check. Have others found this the case?
