I have UKOnline 22MB here in Belfast

LLU is available just depends where you live.

Damn. I live outside Ballynahinch. Takes them ages to get anything. Well apart from the 21CN thing, its one of the first to get it in Northern Ireland.

Does anyone here use Be at a large distance from the exchange? I called them a couple of months ago and they told me that because I live around 4.7Km away from the exchange that I could only expect to get about 1Mb/sec speeds

I currently get 4meg on my ADSLmax line, if I could get similar download speeds and the massively improved upload speed then I would be a pretty happy guy. I suspect that they just deliberately underestimate the speed that you are likely to get to cover their own back, but does anybody here have experience of Be at a similar distance to me?

You should get at least what you get on ADSL1, if not a bit more. Here's an approximate graph of what you can expect based on line attenuation:

And if you've got your line stats, Andrew Ferguson's calculator should give a better guess (still a guess, though) at what ADSL2+ would give you.

It's also worth bearing in mind that beyond a certain distance, Be don't want to know.

Our longest cust on the o2 trial is about 5.5km, so thats about as far as we're willing to go at the moment.

Its line quality rather than distance......if they wont give you sevice is because you would only have the equivelant (or less) performance of a standard adsl service anyway....
gotta give them credit for being honest....cant say that for many ISP's.

aye, if you're 5.5km from the exchange on a piece of string, then you're not going to get much.

then again, the SELT tests can be off by about 10%

I live about 3.7km from my exchange and i can only get 2.5mb max. Seems odd. Must be the quality of the line that makes that big a difference.

well, im 1.8KM from the exchange (as the bird flies) in an old house, crappy 800 year old telephone wires....

my router reports ~11meg download, speedtest.net (to a london server, I live in leeds)

reports:

my friend who also live in an old house, but closer (1KM iirc) to the exchange has proportionatly better speeds, 13mb iirc
