My mum just got Be value installed which is supposed to be up to 8mb, I checked the stats & its sync'd at around 14mb, download speed exceeds 1000kbps,

Is this normal for a £6.75 a mth service or will they throttle it down to nearer 8mb soon?

No it isnt normal, someone at BE has messed up your accounts profile.

If you are paying for the 8Mbit service and your line can handle 14Mbit, then you should see a solid 8mbit / 1.3Mbit sync.

Whether you make a webnote and let them know is up to you :)

Theoretically a 14mbit sync should see downloads of around 1.5mb/s maximum, though if you are using wireless through the BEBox, it is effectively capped at around 1.3mb/s as the BEBoxs Wifi isn't the best.

i do believe you are wrong. it is normal for the connection to be un-restricted for the first days. it will revert back to 8mb soon enough. for some people, seeing the extra speed they can get might prompt them to upgrade their package. conversely, for people who ordered "upto" 24mb and their line supports less than 8mb, they can downgrade to save money.

In my opinion, this is more likely.
It can take up to 10 days for your line to "settle" at it's proper speed.

Fair enough.

it wasn't what I personally experienced when I had it installed for my grandparents, however that was about 2 years ago so maybe they do things differently now.

This is correct. Normally what happens to quite a few people on the BE forums until their profile and account is fully setup.

Welcome to BE ;) Fantastic service
