Hey all,

I have always had a problem whereby sometimes after being turned off my monitor would not display a picture until the computer had been hard reset.

I finally found the solution to this was to enable the "reduce DVI frequency" option in CCC. It worked a treat! Now heres the odd bit. After i shut down and restarted last night following from setting this option i get a BSOD on startup saying ati2mtag.sys is broken....

Thus followed many uninstalls / re-installs and sure enough EVERY time i change thta option BAM my install breaks!! I have gone all the way back to cat 6.3 to no avail...

Ok so can anyone shed any light on why this life saving, must change option is the ONLY option i cannot change without corrupting my catalyst install? Im pulling my hair out here :)

Thanks guys.

Try installing CCC & then find the file ati2mtag.sys & copy it somewhere, make the change & recopy the above file back to where it should be. see if all ok.

my 9800pro gives problems when changing driver settings in CCC. i ticked the triplebuffering box and bloody CCC crashed. i put it down to crap ati drivers. and those are the latest official 6.9's.

You could try those 3rd party drivers for ATi cards, Omega or something like that? Sorry it's late and my mind is distorted.

TBH, 9800 Pro updates went a looooooong time ago. Use the Last 2005 ones, whihc is 5.13? AFAIK.

Thank you for beating me to it - yes sometimes CCC isnt great but when people blame it without checking that their card is supported its kinda grating

sorry i should have mentioned im on xp64, ergo no third party modded drivers for me :(

I'll try the file moving thing in a minute, although i get the feeling its the specific registry changes that cause the error. What i find really odd is that I have done this change in the past with no problems....

Thanks for the replies guys

no go im afraid :( as soon as i move the file back and restart a BSOD appears before windows can even display the login screen :(

I guess i could keep going backwards in revisions but i think im going to have to wait for cat 6.10 and hope its fixed!

thanks again guys.

All I can say is learn not to turn your monitor off. Put a piece of paper over the power button ;)

Not so great for your monitors life expectancy though.

EDIT: Actually on second thought. Have you tried using the VGA port of your graphics card with a VGA to DVI adaptor. Most cards that have the two ports come with an adaptor.

I havent but at the same time i dont really want to switch to VGA from DVI...

I'll live with it for now i spose, ive submitted an error report to ATI anyway, not that i'll ever hear anything back ;)
