So when the pavements get icy it turns into a slip fest for me. My shoes are rather good apart from their capabilities on ice so I decided to invest in a pair of these. Does anyone have anything similar? Do you think they are overkill?
I'd say thats a great idea though i'd wonder how it feels through the sole if you are not on ice any more. Another option for some might be a pair of old football boots with metal studs.
Depends how much you walk on slippery surfaces doesn't it?
I live 3 minutes from where I work, so yes. For me it would be overkill. Especially given the slippery pavements usually only last for a matter of days.
I have a pair of Kahtoola microspikes, and I've been very pleased to have them over the past few days. They're probably overkill, but I've fallen over on ice enough times in the past not to care any more.
Clas Ohlson had them for a reasonable price, not sure if there will be any now post-snow. A reasonable measure I would say. I favour big boots, lots of grip, keep my feet warm and dry.
No, not overkill. I wear something similar now - I consider £15 for a pair of spikes I can wear over any shoes a reasonable outlay to keep myself in one piece. If I hit the deck after a slip, I could seriously damage myself - I fell 15 years ago and was in agony for weeks (and still feel the occasional twinge now!).
Of course, there are plenty of macho men who think wearing any kind of protective gear makes you less of a man - where do you draw the line? Scarves, hats, wellies? Anyway, do you really care what anyone like that thinks? I know I don't
