Hi all,

I'm looking for some electrical advice on my problem. I've got a Beats Beatbox that I use as PC speakers, hardly get used to be honest but I went to switch it on the other day and it's dead! I did purchase it from John Lewis but the warranty expired :(

I've tried the obvious, changing the power cable, using a different plug and trying to remote but no luck.

Any suggestions or do i just bin it?

Thanks for any help given :)

I dont know if this helps but this is quote from rainfrest. He/she had same problem which he/She could not fix so he/she send it back under warranty but It doesn't apply to you as it expired as you said above. Also on richer sounds they are on sale at the moment for around 90 with 5 year warranty. Hope this helps

"Two things (pro/con)

(pro) First off this speaker really does sound great. I make music in my spare time and I wanted a quality speaker but something simple and mobile because I don't work in a regular studio, usually where ever I sit that is my throne! I chose the Dre Beat Box.

(con) I bought it in March of 2013 and I'm sending it back to the manufacture ( 1 yr warranty) this week ( January 2014). It just stop working ( no power going to box). Thinking maybe it was the power cord, I switch it with a my Laptop power cord which is a working cord and no go.I used the beat box power cord with my laptop and the cord worked fine. Something enternal failed. This was on moderate use and nice clean enviroments I never used it outside only in doors. Prior to my purchase the dre beatbox, I used computer speakers with a sub woofer paid 60 bucks and lasted well over 4 years (heavy use indoor and outdoor). If I pay 400 bucks I'm assumming it's going to last a few years. The rating is a 2/3 stars I liked the sound, the sound was fantastic but i should not have to send it back before a year of use. So far the warranty process is going smooth. I talked to a rep and they assisted me very well. There's step you have to do but fairly easy. The warranty is for a year and sounds like there going to honor it. Will update review if anything changes."

Is the manufacturers warranty only 1 year or is it two/three years but John Lewis only covers one directly?

You are covered under the sales of goods act. Educate yourself on the SOGA then quote what you learn to the customer services and I'd be suprised if you didn't get a refund or replacement.

Goods should last for a reasonable amount of time. Usually if they are educated they would ask for an engineers report to see if the damage was caused by you; but only if it's gone past 6 months. It would cost about £40 and it gets refunded by the company which would be john lewis in your case.

I've worked in retail for a while and also managed my own stores, it's amazing how many customer don't have a clue about their rights!

Try it, you prob will get a new one on the spot.

indeed ryan I worked in returns and its amazing how many people don't know.

It's not the companies job to advise you of your rights it's upto you to know them.

Like the fit for purpose argument which the customer will almost always win if it's inside 6 months.

Just curious...what about the stance for for b-grade, or open-box for example?

well technically you remove your right to some parts becuase you are made aware that the items have been opened and are in a used or at the very least not new condition.

So it would be hard to make somethings stick. OFC we offer the same 14 day right to cancel and 28 day DOA policy that we offer with anything even thought he main risk with B-grade is that you'll be unlikely to get a replacement.

That said the manufacturer has no way of knowing if we sold it b grade so warranty should still apply.
