Snow Patrol - Set fire to the third bar
Death Cab For Cutie - I will follow you into the dark

Two tracks that I really do think are amazing; what softer songs have left an impression on you?

Smashing Pumpkins - Blank page, In the arms of sleep
Idlewild - Goodnight
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
REM - Belong
The Cure - Pictures of you
U2 - Wake up dead man, Please, Mothers of the disappeared

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Still thinking
Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
No - I can't think of one.

Small black flowers that grow in the sky - Manic Street Preachers

Not the happiest lyrics, but the tune is great. I was so chuffed when I finally learnt to play this.

illuminate my heart, my darling - yndi halda
orestes - a perfect circle
fistful of love - antony and the johnsons

Under the Bridge by Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

a song about despair and a drug addiction is considered a 'beautiful song'?

I would say maybe.....Fragile by Sting. Ode to my family by The Cranberries, quite a lot by the Cranberries actually. I cant really think of anything else though, especially not anythign by the chilli peppers lol

Check out 'The Valley' by Martin Taylor, instrumental guitar track. You might like it, when I first heard it it reminded me a little of 'small black flowers...'

The only one I can think of is Massive Attack - Teardrop. I'm not sure if it triggers a memory or what but whenever I hear it I can feel myself filling up.

Bridges over troubled waters - Simon and Garfunkel
Everybody Hurts - REM
Streets of Philadelphia - Bruce Springsteen
Goodbye To You - Michelle Branch
Hold On Hope - Guided By Voices
Hurt - Johnny Cash
Good Riddance (Time of your life) - Greenday
What Becomes Of The Broken-hearted Lyrics - Jimmy Ruffin

and

Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley

it depends what you consider beautiful, doesnt it? he might be listening to the music, he might empathise with the subject of the song. you just don't know.
