BeBox problems

I'm a Be Unlimited customer and I've been supplied with one of their routers - a BeBox.

Mine has been fine for a couple of months but it's now started to give me problems. Since I've got the router, the only settings that I've changed are the admin password, wireless ID and wireless password.

Over night or when I'm at work, it'll screw up. The lights on the router are still lit but other networked devices can't see it. Bizarrely, sometimes wireless devices continue to see it (and connect to the internet) whilst ethernet-based devices stop working.

Rebooting the BeBox solves the problem.

Has anyone experienced similar problems or could give advice? Be Unlimited haven't been of much help.

I guess the best thing to do is to replace it with a proper router. Any recommendations for a compatible 4-port ethernet/802.11g router?

I was having some problems with mine as well. Since I replaced it, my connection has been rock stable.

You can find a Netgear (or Sky branded) dg834gt quite cheap on a well known auction site.

As Tolien says the Bebox is rubbish-o. Mine doesn't even work! I'm using a Linksys AM200 + WRT54GL with Tomato firmware. Works just fine. :)

The DG834N works quite well apparently. :)

I found my BeBox runs a lot better and more stable when I run it upside-down on top of something, (i.e. with the underside ventilation holes facing upwards and nothing over it to allow free reign to heat escaping).

I don't hammer mine as much as some people but it gets a reasonable amount of usage through it and I had to reboot it for the first time in 29 days this morning as it was running slowly, (but was still sync'ed at ~12Mb).

Like people say you will probably get better results with a Netgear unit but in the interim you could try the above to hopefully give you a slightly more stable connection.

i just switched to Be on monday and won a sky branded netgear for pretty cheap yesterday, pretty much cos me postage :) hope it's better.

Cheers, I'll give it a go. I have noticed that it gets very warm.

Otherwise I guess I'll buy a new router!

The BeBox is crap. If you cancel you'll need to send it back, so don't use it for target practice :p

ditto.

I tried my bebox upside down and it did work better, but not as good as my Draytek which I use all the time now.

I recommend Draytek routers, although they are more expensive than others.
