This seemed to be the best place to post, not a build log, but sort of a mini project. I happen to have a few non-working laptops around (one was mine other 2 given to me) and I basically wanted to see recently if I could do something interesting with one of them, one already had the hard drive/ram/keyboard taken out and used in a second laptop of the same brand, so not much left but I've been keeping my eye on trying to use the screen as a second display, and what was always pretty expensive has gotten awful cheap.
I found a seller on ebay who sells controller boards for different lcd panels (just had to check what panel you have to get the right board) the board has dvl/vga and hdmi outputs (also bought the power cable for the controller board, total inc postage ended up about £30 - which was a pretty handy price).
Board arrived and I connected it to the panel, hdmi cable to the board and powered it all up - worked like a charm! Only issue now was making it usable, and not siting on the floor where I couldn't see it, so back to ebay
, found a table mount bracket with vesa support, screws onto the table to support the screen - this set me back just under £40 but I'm very pleased with it, great options for angling the screen etc, didnt fancy drilling holes into the wall etc incase I re-arrange things in the future, dont have many pictures, no in-progress but Il show the ones I do have :
Stand alone images of the controller board and stand (taken straight from the sellers - better images than I can take)
Actual display beside my main monitor :
and the last thing I need to do - hide the cables lol -
I've had the 2dn display only a few days but what I';ve been using it mostly so far is keeping tabs on system info - temps on gpu/cpu steam chats - in all honesty not a whole heap, but it was just a wee itch to do something and this was the result,
Hope you all liked the result
