Beckham to be dropped?

I really can't undestand why there is such a large number of people (generally; not specifically related to this thread) who support dropping Beckham from the squad. As far as I am concerned he was the best England player on the park (although perhaps that's not sayung much!) in several of the World Cup games. He may not be sprinting round the park and involved in every play, but he can pop up from nowhere and play that killer pass. At the moment there is no better play in England (or possibly even the world) at ball distribution.

It would seem to me that English football fans love to get on the back of someone and at the moment it's Beckham. How about finding Lampard a decent opticians instead. In the World Cup he choked and couldn't hit a barn door!

McClaren for my mind is to engrained in the Sven camp / way of doing things. Little will change; expectations will be high, the reality as always will fall far short.

Lampard had a very poor run of form, no-one will argue this.

Beckham has been poor for some time, in a similar way to the 3 years before Scholes retired. Except Scholes could afford to roam around the pitch a little, Beckham never could but does it anyway.

It's all relative. Whilst he might not have been playing at his best, he has been playing a dam sight better then many of his team mates who still find themselves in the squad.

McLaren wont least a year.

Fact.

I hope he does alright cos its England that will suffer if he doesn't.Haven't seen anything from him to suggest he's good enough for the job tho.Dropping Beckham like he has seems to be making a point rather than a decision.Beckham hasn't been that good in normal play, but from dead balls he is still one of the best in the world -and afaik 35-40% of goals come from free kicks. So maybe he shouldn't be guaranteed a spot a la sven, but he should still be in the squad.Would be great if like in American football we could just wheel him out to take kicks ,then get him off again :)

Hes come in on his high horse and said blah, blah.

Dropping Beckham who just took us to the World Cup and was captain for 5 years and hes not even in the squad.

I bet McLaren hated Beckham at United and this is payback.

erm may i just say that wont any of you lot miss Beckhams amazing freekicks and crosses plus im slightly disapointed as im going to watch England Vs Greace on the 16th.

not really... look this is how i see it...

the vast majority of goals scored are from within the box.. these beckham long balls are not converting into goals for england.. maybe it works for real madrid but obviously not for england

if you look at all the goals scored for england during the world cup only 2 came from within the box.. that was when gerrard and crouch got headers... the other goals came from 2 beckham deliveries (free kicks), joe coles volley and gerrards shot...

basically we were very lucky to get as far as we did.. we were completely impotent in the box.. and what good is that when statistically the vast majority of goals come from this area?

we need a team that converts balls fed into the box into goals, not a team that hopes to get away with lucky goals from freekicks and amazing once in a life time volleys

to me its easier to remove beckham than it is to replace the forwards who can convert his balls into goals.. (and what forwards have we got that can convert his balls into goals? answer me that) owen isnt converting his balls into goals, crouch is useless in the air and rooney isnt an out and out striker..

and where did beckham deliver most of his balls from? just past the half way line.. because he cant get any deeper because hes closed down too quickly.. not his fault hes aging but thats what happened

beckham has a talent for his deliveries but this style of play doesnt fit with england and frankly im sick of seeing long ball after long ball not converting into goals.. its that the forwards cant convert his balls into goals that is the problem.. not beckham himself IMV .. now seeing as all beckham can offer is his deliveries what point is there in having him play when they arent being converted?

feel free to savage me :p

I don't look at Beckham as being that good anymore, Champions league or World Cup i never seen much of him, or why he was on the park. Wow he can take good free kicks, or used to be able to, although he scored a nice one in the World Cup.

He was a good player, still is but just isn't that star player anymore. There is a lot of young players coming through who deserve to be on the pitch and who will benefit England more.

Probably all say i don't have a clue, i'm talking rubbish. But i feel he just isn't got it anymore.

The thing is, not getting on the "I hate Beckham" bandwagon or anything, but he's not been that amazing at crosses and free kicks of late. Yeah he's scored from some, and supplied a few good balls, but his corners of recent have been pretty poor, and before the WC wasn't his last free kick goal something like the Greece one before the Euros?

Joe Cole is a decent free kick taker, and has scored at least one for England before. Who's to say, given the same amount of chances, that he couldn't do just as good a job with them? He's a better shooter than Beckham in general too. Who's to say that Gary Neville, or someone else, couldn't take as good a corner as Becks either?

McLaren wants to go with kids.

You don’t win anything with kids.

A Hansen.

You don’t win anything internationally with kids, FACT.

He's dropped one senior player, hardly makes it a team of kids does it?
