Hey all.

Just wondering if anyone knows of anywhere that can do a bed frame that supports about 25 ish stone people.

Looked about but cant find any that is within my budget as only got around £100-130 ish to spend.

Needs to be a double, would like it a high bed so not close to ground and has extra support for large persons for myself. Preferably metal that doesnt make noise.

As my current argos metal frame one has just broke in the middle so need to get a new one sharpish i think.

Frames are just supports for a mattress. You could get a pile of bricks and then cover that with a sheet and stick a mattress on top for example. However don't know how your floor would take to that and the structure it's sitting on.

At that budget I'd be looking second hand and getting decent slats like the heavy duty ones from here.

You could make a bed base yourself out of wood and then stick this on top. However well out of budget.

However the best thing you could do is start jogging 2 hours a day 4-5 days a week and improving your diet. It's not easy and results will take time but it's your health at stake here. It's also a permanent change you need to make, slip into old habits and you will be heavier than before you started.

That's probably one of the worst things the OP could do. At that weight going straight into 2-hour jogging has a serious risk of damage to knees/shins/ankles. Low impact exercise like cycling or swimming would be better.

Im not that big for a bariatric bed lol. Normal bed with extra strength is all im after.

That might have done ok, just its a bit expensive. Hoped maybe someone could have found somit similar but in my price range is all.

Don't look at total weight (assuming the 28 stone is for one person not two) look at the individual. It's more relevant as the weight will be focused in a single area.

The major issue you have isn't with availability, just budget!

According to the Q&A this doesn't have a specific weight limit, no idea why, most bed frames do!

The term bariatric has nothing to do with one's dimensions - it's simple the medical field studying and treating the obese. Being 25 stone you absolutely need a bariatric bed.

As Pudney is saying, you have to look at the individual rated weights for these frames. In my opinion, to get a decent frame that can support you (and potentially any other weight that may get added, e.g. partner/cat/whatever), you need to spend more money than you have budgeted.

I simply dont have any more money to spend tho. So its all well and good saying i need more but fact is i dont have any more and cant get any more. So it wont be perfect bed frame as long as its stronger than the cheap 18 stone usual bed frames like a 23 stone one will probably be enough. I dont sleep on one side anyhow so if it says spread weight is more supported then ill just spread myself out on it lol.

Yeah don't ever tell a heavyish person to go jog always think of the lightest exercise to the knees. Biking isn't bad imo. Swimming if you are confident is probably the best.

For that price buy cheap wood frame, goto b&Q or similar and replace slats with MDF sheeting and get them to chop a few bits of 2x2 to the right size for extra legs half way along the rails and possibly centre rail if it doesn't come with one. Then drill and bolt MDF board through the rail the slats sit on to stop sides pulling apart.
Or spend more money for a neater solution.

Or pallet bed for free

Personally I would bodge some reinforcement into the current frame and keep saving - or you could well be in this same scenario again very shortly.

Pallet bed is actually a great ghetto idea, assuming you get ones with a suitable weight rating again :p

Rather than make a new thread :
Does anyone one know of any good beds that don't *ahem* squeek when testing the frame

My mate hovers around the 23-24st mark and apart from the cheap box frame with fabric stretched over it has never had any issues with a standard bed frame and that's with his other half in there as well.

We've got an Ikea Malm:

Now, we're only about 22st combined, but I would be surprised if these can't hold a decent weight. There's a steel support beam along the middle, so the slats aren't spanning a huge area, particularly on the standard double (we've got the King).

A quick google for its capacity finds some chunky americans talking about it, and no-one's had a problem.

I've broken two of these in the past and I hover between 18-20st. The steel beam eventually rips through the chipboard ends.

At 20st, experience tells me the best thing to do is get a divan base, double ones are available for reasonable prices and even second hand would be ok to be fair. I've just got a new £1k bed from Bensons but spent the last two years on a queensize with my wife that I paid £35 for when budgets were tight.
